Microstructure evolution and strengthening mechanism of A356 composites reinforced with micron and nano SiCp

Abstract The single scale SiC p reinforcement has a limited effect on the comprehensive performance of composite, which restricts optimization and improvement its performance. In order to improve material’s strong plasticity, wear resistance, thermal expansion other properties requirements. (micron nano) dual-scale /A356 composites with different volume fractions were prepared using combination powder metallurgy hot extrusion. effects (15, 20, 25, 30 vol.%) microstructure mechanical A356 studied, strengthening mechanism was analyzed. results show that increasing content, distribution uniformity first increase then decrease. When content is 25%, reach their maximum values, hardness, yield strength tensile 112.3 HBW, 228 MPa 310 MPa, respectively. They are improved by 86.9%, 81.0%, 74.2% as compared those alloy, fracture modes mainly Al matrix tearing fracture. main Orowan strengthening, along mismatch load transfer fine grain strengthening.
